The countdown has begun- Every commercial Vehicle is bound to fix a GPS tracking device

‘Autos, cars, trucks and buses must install the device in line with Centre and apex court direction.’
Installation of the global positioning system (GPS) is mandatory for all commercial transport vehicles all over the country by this coming New Year to bring transparency in the transportation system.

30 government buses fitted with GPS-based speakers

According to AIS-140 norm decided by ARAI, every commercial vehicle must fix GPS devices to fulfill the norm and that is from 1st April of 2019. But 30 government buses have already fitted GPS devices based public information systems which is similar to those fitted inside the buses will announce bus stops to passengers.

GPS is not mandatory for official vehicles of judges, speaker etc

As declared before every commercial and official car needs to use GPS devices from 1st April 2019. The Government had put this mandatory requirement to prevent misuse of official cars. But the department had stated the secret nature of their work as the reason to seek exemption.

AIS-140 extension

According to the central government has decided to post pond the mandatory rules regarding AIS-140 requirement to have global positioning system equipment and the panic button connected to all public transport service vehicle till April 1, 2019
AIS140 is mainly implemented to reduce the Vehicular crime in the country.

AIS 140 is a set of the standards published by ARAI, designed to build an intelligent fleet management system using GPS system specifically tailed to gain total control over public transports in India. It is believed that ITS would narrow all traffic-related crime issues using GPS systems.
